(Kuching, 11th) The Bebuling New Airport project, costing RM248 million, is now 99.9% complete and is expected to be fully completed and put into operation by June 2026.
Sarawak Deputy Premier and Second Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Amar Douglas, stated that the project is nearing completion, demonstrating the Sarawak Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government's determination to fulfill its development commitments to the people.
He said that development projects announced by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari are not just stuck at the proposal stage, but will truly be implemented and completed for the benefit of the people.
“When the Sarawak Premier announces a plan, it is not just a promise, but a project that will definitely be realized for the people.”
He made this remark yesterday while inspecting the Bebuling Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (Stolport Airport) project site located in Spaoh.
Douglas is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development for Sarawak. He pointed out that only some minor finishing works remain before the project is fully completed.
However, he noted that the airport still needs to go through several technical procedures, including test flights, to ensure that it is operationally ready before it can be officially put into full use.
He added that the new airport is expected to greatly drive development in Spaoh and the Betong area, including improving transportation convenience, stimulating local economic activities, as well as opening up tourism and investment opportunities.
The inspection was held this morning from 10:30am to 12 noon, during which they also listened to briefings on the remaining works, with about 50 people attending.
Attendees included Richard Labo, Betong Division Resident Richard Michael Aveng, and Betong District Officer Laga Kueh.
