International Islamic Affairs Conference Rejects Extremist Ideologies

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 26th) Recently, at the formal invitation of Dr. Osama Azari, Egypt's Minister of Religious Endowments, Datuk Seri Dr. Sediya, Rector of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA), attended the 36th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs held in Cairo from January 19th to 20th, 2026.
This grand event, sponsored by the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, brought together ministers, religious leaders, scholars, and intellectuals from more than 50 countries to discuss renewal of religious discourse, rejecting extremist ideologies, and the role of Islamic institutions in global human and social development.
During the conference, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt held special meetings and roundtable discussions with the heads of all participating national delegations.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt stressed the necessity to develop a joint strategy to combat extremism, strengthen social stability through religious institutions, and utilize digital technologies and artificial intelligence in contemporary Islamic preaching.

He also emphasized that Islam is a living religion, always closely linked with current realities, and called upon scholars and intellectuals to play an active role in the digital space and social media.
The participation of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University in this high-level meeting aligns with the conference framework, which underscores human development, professional ethics, enhancing the voice of moderate Islam, as well as international cooperation in knowledge and missionary fields.
To this end, the Rector of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University also paid a courtesy visit to Professor Ahmed Muhammad Al-Tayyib, President of Al-Azhar University, and held bilateral talks.

The aim of the meeting was to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two universities in academia, research, faculty and student exchanges, as well as in the fields of international Islamic knowledge and human development.
This move reflects Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University of Brunei's commitment to continuously expanding its global network, while supporting the development of a progressive, value-driven Islamic discourse capable of addressing current global challenges.
