(Miri, 5th) “Barber Take Over Event” officially kicks off today at the Miri Visitor Information Centre and will continue until June 8. This event provides an opportunity for young people and the public to gain insights into the world of barbering, grooming art, and technical vocational education and training (TVET).

This five-day event runs daily from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM and features a wide range of activities, including Barber Battle competitions, grooming and haircutting workshops, free haircut services, and business exhibition booths.

The highlight “Barber Battle” attracts nearly 50 barbers from Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, and Kuala Lumpur to compete for a total prize of RM8,000, showcasing their exquisite skills and creativity.

Additionally, the organizers have arranged for 8 professional barbers to provide free haircut services for 100 people over the five days. Participating barbershops include well-known names like K24, Hair2day, Kiyahe, Gras, Gustar, Barberyenshop, Tok Man's, and Yann Barbershop.

To encourage more young people to enter the TVET field, the event also includes hands-on workshops teaching grooming and entrepreneurial skills, helping those interested in the hair industry to build foundational skills and career paths.

Meanwhile, more than 15 local business booths participate in the exhibition, showcasing diverse products and services, creating a lively market atmosphere, and further stimulating community economic vitality.

The event is supported by strategic collaborations with the Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak (DUBS) Miri branch and MYSED.

Mohammad Hafidz Rohani, Chairman of DUBS Miri branch, stated that such events not only enhance technical skill development but also provide young people with opportunities to explore entrepreneurship.

He pointed out that the government, through the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), has introduced various support programs like GERAK and USTEV grants, specifically providing financial assistance to tech-savvy young entrepreneurs.
DUBS Miri also promises to assist members in applying for these grants to jointly promote the growth of local technical talent and businesses.

“Barber Take Over is not just a grooming event; it is a platform that integrates community, skills, and entrepreneurial spirit, showcasing youth creativity and unlocking their potential.”
