70-year-old Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-fat recently led a group of friends in their 70s to form the “Fat’s Running Team,” and together they completed a marathon event, attracting much attention. Well-known art director Man Lim Chung also posted an article revealing the touching acts behind Chow’s actions over the past two years.
After completing the race on the 19th, Man Lim Chung shared that actually two years ago, when Chow Yun-fat learned that Lo Hoi-pang (“Pang Gor”) was in poor health, he personally drove every morning, wind or rain, to pick up Pang Gor for exercise, in order to encourage his friend to get moving. Afterward, Chow would take him to breakfast, and finally drive him back home. Apart from typhoon days, this perseverance never faltered and quietly continued for more than a year. With Chow's companionship, Pang Gor has noticeably changed. He went from initially having to walk with a cane, struggling with each step, to now being able to go without a cane and steadily taking a one-hour walk every day.
Besides Pang Gor, Chow has also, for many years, actively kept in touch with his former TVB colleagues, whether they were actors in front of the camera or production assistants (PAs) and assistant directors behind the scenes, encouraging everyone to join the ranks of exercising. Every day they wake up early to go walking, running, have conversations and laugh together, happily starting a new day. This has not only improved the health of these “silver-haired” friends, but has also shown everyone Chow Yun-fat’s selfless compassion.
Man Lim Chung also specifically mentioned another veteran actor, Kent Cheng (“Fat Cat”). With Chow's encouragement, Kent Cheng regained his health through practicing running, and after less than a year of training, he successfully completed the 10km Standard Chartered Marathon event. When he crossed the finish line, even he himself could hardly believe it. Man Lim Chung movingly urges: stop using old age as an excuse—these running buddies are all over 70 years old.
