Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin has been imprisoned for a year, and may serve as a language teacher while in prison.
According to Thai Headline News Agency, the Deputy Director-General and spokesperson of the Department of Corrections stated on the 11th that after the Supreme Court sentenced Thaksin to one year in prison, he must first stay in an isolation ward for the first five days after entering prison.
After the isolation period ends, he will go through the prisoner classification process, and the committee will assign specific posts based on his expertise. For example, inmates with nursing skills will be assigned to the medical room to assist in dispensing medication, while those with engineering backgrounds will work in maintenance. Given Thaksin's language skills, he may be assigned to work as a language teacher in the future. This move aims to utilize inmates' strengths for the overall benefit of prison operations and help with their learning and rehabilitation.
It was revealed that in the past two nights, Thaksin has been in good condition in prison, eating well—"usually having two boiled eggs with coffee in the morning"—and sleeping regularly without making any special requests. The spokesperson stated that since Thaksin chose to return to Thailand to serve his sentence, it indicates he is psychologically prepared, and he is currently mentally stable. Considering his advanced age of 76, the Department of Corrections has placed him in a ward with other elderly prisoners, rather than with younger inmates involved in homicide cases.
Currently, the Department of Corrections has not allowed anyone to visit, including lawyers. According to regulations, only after the five-day isolation period will Thaksin's designated 10 visitors (including his wife, children, and family members) be allowed to meet him. The Department of Corrections stressed that relevant procedures will be strictly followed.
