Looking back at Patrick Tse's nearly 70-year acting career, he not only brought joy to the public with countless classic works but also deeply influenced the Hong Kong film industry with his dashing style and spirit of nurturing newcomers.
Renowned director Wong Jing paid tribute late at night on the 20th, calling Patrick Tse the most charismatic star in his heart. Wong Jing recalled that when he first entered the industry at the age of 22, Patrick Tse would take him for coffee, drive fast cars, and teach him the philosophy of being a "superstar". Back then, when Wong Jing was directing his first movie "Challenge of the Gamesters", Patrick Tse even broke the deadlock over payment to support him with brotherly loyalty, helping launch his directing career. Wong Jing lamented, "Perhaps in the next 50 years, there may never be another like Patrick Tse."
"King of Comedy" Stephen Chow (Sing Yeh) also posted a black-and-white photo on IG of Patrick Tse's signature smile, quoting a line from Du Fu's poem—"With my drink and rolling eyes, I gaze at the blue sky; like a jade tree standing gracefully in the wind"—to praise his charm, and wrote, "Actor Patrick Tse, rest in peace." Their connection began in 2000 during preparations for the movie "Shaolin Soccer". At the time, Stephen Chow—working with a limited budget—planned to invite Patrick Tse to play the villain 'Qiang Xiong' for HK$1 million (about RM520,000). Patrick Tse initially refused with humor; but, moved by Chow's sincerity in paying tribute to his late friend Bruce Lee, he ultimately decided to play the role for free, helping create a legendary classic in film history. #
