At a metro station in Shanghai, China, a woman attempted to “force the door” during boarding, causing the train to pause operation. The video of “Shanghai Metro Line 5 Being Forced to Halt” attracted attention online on the evening of the 6th.
A reporter from Huashang Daily's Dafeng News sought confirmation from the Shanghai Metro regarding the incident on the 7th. A relevant official later detailed the incident.
According to the introduction, the incident occurred on June 6 at 6:11 pm during the evening rush hour. At the Yindu Road Station on Line 5, a passenger attempted to “force the door” (i.e., forcibly board as the doors were about to close) by throwing a bag she was carrying to block the door, causing the bag to be caught by the train door. Subsequently, the woman firmly held onto the bag’s handle and stood still, resulting in a situation where the bag was inside the train and the person was outside.
“Upon discovering this situation, our platform staff immediately activated the emergency close button, causing the train to pause operation,” the official stated. The station quickly coordinated with multiple departments to arrange for the train to reopen and close the doors to retrieve the passenger’s trapped bag.
In response to the circulating “forced halt” claim online, the official clarified that the temporary stop was promptly handled due to the passenger's uncivilized behavior, “without affecting overall operations,” and the following trains did not experience widespread delays. He emphasized that this incident was a short-term handling of a single train.
“After the incident, the station immediately reported to the police. The police have located the involved passenger and have given serious education and criticism for her uncivilized boarding behavior.” The official urged all passengers: “We hope everyone pays attention to safety when boarding or waiting for the train and refrains from uncivilized and unsafe boarding behaviors like forcing the door.”
