(Kuching, 5th) In conjunction with the Sarawak Energy Marathon 2026, 30 roads in Kuching city will be closed and traffic diversion measures will be implemented from 8am on August 8th to 10am on August 9th.
Kuching District Police Chief Alexson Naga Chabu stated that in order to ensure the smooth running of the marathon event and to facilitate traffic management during the event, the authorities must implement road closures and diversions. The event is expected to attract both local and international runners.
He said that the first area to be affected will be the roads surrounding the Sarawak Energy Building, where road closures will begin at 8am on August 8th and continue until 10am on August 9th.
Other roads will be closed from 12:01am to 8am on August 9th, including: Jalan Isthmus, Jalan Pelabuhan, Jalan Merican Salleh, Jalan Pending, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Lebuh Temple, Lebuh Wayang, and Jalan Main Bazaar.
Other affected roads include: Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Satok, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob, Jalan Stadium, Jalan Casuarina, Jalan Diplomatik, Jalan MASJA, Jalan Astana, Jalan Hasyim Jaafar, Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Kulas, Jalan Muhibbah, Jalan Haji Mataim, Jalan Ajibah Abol, Jalan Market, Jalan Gambier, Jalan Abell, Jalan Abang Abdul Rahim, Lorong Sebor, Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, and Jalan Merbau.
Alexson urged the public not to park their vehicles along the shoulders of the affected roads and to plan their journeys in advance, using alternative routes to ease traffic congestion.
“Motorists are urged to cooperate during the event and follow the instructions of the traffic personnel on site,” he said.
