Malaysia Voluntary Rescue Team leader Leong Ming Da became visibly emotional and broke down in tears during a live broadcast on Tuesday morning, admitting that his team is experiencing unprecedented pressure.
In the live video, a choked-up Leong revealed that the rescue team has received thousands of calls for help over the past few days. With water levels in the disaster areas continuing to rise and the situation growing more severe, he and his teammates often feel powerless due to limited manpower and resources. This intense sense of helplessness brought him to tears multiple times during the broadcast.
He pointed out that with calls for help constantly pouring in and water levels surging, he has been unable to sleep through the night, feeling deeply helpless and tormented. He anticipates that today’s rescue efforts will be even more challenging but pledged to do everything possible to assist in the rescue operations.
Leong also made an impassioned plea during the live broadcast, urging the government to immediately launch a comprehensive official rescue mechanism to rescue the stranded citizens as quickly as possible.
He said that after this morning’s team meeting, it became clear that today’s rescue efforts would be even more difficult and face multiple obstacles, raising concerns that not all Malaysians might be rescued.
On another note, he disclosed that some Malaysians have been trapped in hotels for several days and have requested rice donations to cook for themselves to stave off hunger.
