The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed on Wednesday that a suspect in the killing of Lieutenant General Kirillov, commander of the Russian Armed Forces Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Troops, has been arrested.
The Investigative Committee noted that the suspect is a Uzbek national, born in 1995, and is currently under Russian custody. During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence and instructed to carry out this mission in Moscow. He received a high-powered improvised explosive device and placed it on an electric scooter parked near Kirillov's residence.
To monitor movements near Kirillov's residence in real-time, the suspect rented a car and installed a camera inside to transmit footage live to the organizers of the terror attack. After confirming Kirillov had left his apartment building, the assailant remotely detonated the improvised explosive device.
According to Russian media reports, the assailant was promised $100,000 (446,800 MYR) and the opportunity to live in the European Union.
The suspect is currently detained in a village near Moscow.
The Russian Investigative Committee announced on social media on Tuesday that Kirillov died in an explosion at a residential building in Moscow on the same day. One of his aides also died in the explosion.
