Bai Lu, known for her roles in "The Long Moon Ember" and "Ning An Ru Meng," has risen to become China's goddess of costume dramas. However, after the broadcast of the new fantasy drama "Lin Jiang Xian," which she starred in alongside Zeng Shunxi, it was met with overwhelming negative reviews. Producer Yu Zheng was initially optimistic that "Lin Jiang Xian" would become a hit drama, but the special effects and plot did not meet audience expectations. The latest episodes have even fallen to the point where there's no advertising sponsors. It is reported that the drama had a production cost of 300 million RMB (approximately 170 million MYR), and now it might face complete financial loss. During this period, Bai Lu has also expressed a desire to take a six-month break, with many believing this is due to the disappointing viewership of her recent works, "Bai Yue Fan Xing" and "Lin Jiang Xian," thus wanting to take a rest and reflect.
"Lin Jiang Xian," which uses a reverse narrative method, did appeal to a portion of the audience who found it intriguing and mind-bending, but the majority of viewers grew frustrated with the constant plot twists. The series initially had six advertisers at its launch, but now has none, indicating a dismal performance. Additionally, Yu Zheng revealed that "Lin Jiang Xian" had spent multiple times more money on publicity than Wu Jinyan’s "Mo Yu Yun Jian," but the outcome was still not as expected. Bai Lu is currently filming "Mo Li," and during a recent live broadcast, Yu Zheng also mentioned Bai Lu's request for a half-year leave. As she has been continuously filming dramas and recording variety shows over the past few years, he agreed to the leave. However, many believe that Bai Lu did not really want to star in "Bai Yue Fan Xing" and "Lin Jiang Xian," agreeing only out of respect for Yu Zheng. Now, with not only her previous waist injury recurring but also her reputation falling short of expectations, she proposed the idea of taking a break, leaving fans feeling distressed.
