Hong Kong heartthrob Julian Cheung recently admitted on a program that his stamina and condition are no longer what they used to be. He doesn’t want to be pitied by his fans in the future and frankly revealed plans to retire. However, he emphasized that he is simply changing tracks and is interested in moving behind the scenes, with dreams of directing a major movie production.
During a recent appearance as a guest on a Chinese talk show, Julian Cheung brought up the topic of retirement again, candidly saying that he is truly considering it: “It’s not just about physical stamina, my state is already not as good as it was ten years ago. I think it’s about time. I don’t want those who like me to watch my concerts out of pity. I want to give them my peak, my very best.”
Nevertheless, Julian Cheung stressed that he’s not stepping back completely: “Even though I keep mentioning retirement, to a certain extent I still want to continue serving everyone. So I’ve been saying I could become a director, and people would still be able to see my soul speaking to them—not just my looks. I feel my value isn’t only about this appearance; I can help convey those emotions from behind the scenes. I may gradually develop in that direction.”
He joked that his dream is to direct a high-budget film without needing to do much promotion, to which the host teased him for being wishful.
