(Kuching, 14th) Sarawak has once again become the host of an international event, as the 2025 Sarawak International Choir Festival and Conference taking place this week attracts choir enthusiasts from around the world and diverse cultural backgrounds to gather and build cultural bridges through music.

Sarawak's Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, stated at the opening ceremony held at the Hikmah Exchange Convention Center on Friday that the choir festival is not only a musical feast but also an important platform for Sarawak to showcase its strength in unity and cultural exchange on the global stage.

“This is a celebration of unity through song, a platform for cultural exchange, and a space for learning, inspiration, and collaboration,” he said.

He pointed out that music has the power to transcend language, borders, and background differences. This event will not only feature competitions but also in-depth professional symposiums and masterclasses, providing opportunities for conductors, teachers, and singers to enhance their skills.

This year's choir festival is rich in content, including various choir competitions, professional workshops, concerts held across Kuching, as well as the highly anticipated finals and closing ceremony.

Special performing groups include the Sarawak Children's Choir, the local youth ensemble PUSAK, and the internationally renowned choir Kinderchor der Staatsoper Unter den Linden from Germany, adding international flair to the event.

Snowdan hopes that the Sarawak International Choir Festival and Conference will bring inspiration, joy, and unforgettable experiences to all participants. He emphasized:

“Let us continue to build bridges through music and make this choir festival not only a harmonious event in terms of sound but also a symbol of spiritual unity.”

Guests attending the opening ceremony also included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts of Sarawak, Juleen Alun, CEO of the Business Events Sarawak, Amelia Roziman, President of the Kuching Choir Association, Benedict Lau, and Artistic Director of the Sarawak International Choir Festival and Conference, Suzanna Tiong.
