Leaders from various countries participating in the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings will begin arriving in Kuala Lumpur starting today.

Distinguished guests expected to arrive on Friday (October 25) include Brazilian President Lula and his wife Rosângela, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, South African President Ramaphosa and his wife Motsepe, as well as East Timor Prime Minister Xanana and President Ramos-Horta.

Other leaders paying a visit include Finnish Foreign Minister Valtonen, ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn and his wife Khem Rany, East Timor’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Freitas, as well as Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiarto and Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Jamari.

The ongoing arrivals of world leaders are adding momentum to the upcoming summit, including U.S. President Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, European Council President Costa, and Japan’s first female Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, among other global leaders.

Malaysia, serving as ASEAN chair in 2025, has chosen the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability." This summit will become one of the largest meetings in ASEAN’s history, aiming to provide a crucial platform to deepen regional cooperation and address global challenges with unity and inclusiveness.

Additionally, East Timor will participate in this meeting, with its formal accession as the 11th ASEAN member state expected to be officially confirmed at the summit on October 26.

At a time when the global economy faces pressure from U.S. tariff measures and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, Malaysia is hosting this ASEAN Summit and related meetings.

Key meetings held this week include the 26th ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting, focusing on the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025, as well as the ASEAN Geo-Economic Working Group Experts +4 Meeting, which will discuss strategies to tackle intensifying global economic and trade headwinds.

Since its founding in 1967, Malaysia has served as ASEAN’s rotating chair for the fifth time—the previous four being in 2015, 2005, 1997, and 1977.

The 47th ASEAN Summit will be held from October 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), and rehearsals for the heads of states' arrival ceremony are already underway.

Besides ASEAN leaders, more than 20 world leaders are expected to attend the summit, including U.S. President Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazilian President Lula, South African President Ramaphosa, European Council President Costa, and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Traffic police are directing vehicles at the Bukit Bintang intersection to facilitate the passage of national delegations heading to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings.

Due to temporary road closures during the ASEAN Summit, severe traffic congestion has occurred on several main roads in the capital, including Jalan Ampang, Tun Razak Road, Bukit Bintang Road, and many highways leading to the city center.

During the 47th ASEAN Summit, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture's dance troupe will present a lively welcoming ceremony for attending heads of state and government leaders, with performances taking place from October 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

The program will include a stunning 24 Festive Drums performance, followed by traditional Malay drum music and cultural dances, symbolizing Malaysia’s harmony and unity as a multiracial nation.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) is making active preparations to welcome the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings from October 26 to 28 in Kuala Lumpur, including enhanced security measures and improved hospitality arrangements.

At the same time, to support the "ASEAN 2025" theme promotion, related publicity materials are now being displayed on the flight information display system screens at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA T1).
