U.S. President Trump said on the 10th that he is considering sending a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East to prepare for military action if negotiations with Iran fail.
In an interview with the American news website Axios, he said: "There may be another fleet heading there."
Currently, the US military's "Lincoln" aircraft carrier strike group has already been deployed in Middle Eastern waters.
Trump stated that Iran is very eager to reach an agreement and believes this round of negotiations is very different.
He pointed out that the next round of US-Iran negotiations is expected to take place next week.
He said that the US and Iran can reach an agreement, but any deal must cover Iran's nuclear program and should also address Iran's ballistic missile stockpile.
On the 6th, Iran and the US held indirect talks on the nuclear issue in Muscat, the capital of Oman. Although both sides released signals of continuing negotiations afterward, the war alert has not been lifted.
Opposes Israel's Annexation of West Bank
Additionally, Trump stated that he opposes Israel's move to annex the occupied West Bank.
When asked about Israel's recent measures to strengthen control over the West Bank and pave the way for expanding settlements, Trump said, "I oppose annexation; we do not need to deal with the West Bank issue."
