(Kuching, 12th) A forest fire broke out in Kampung Kut, Dalat, with an estimated 10 hectares of land affected. On the second day of firefighting operations yesterday, firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze over 3 hectares.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department report, after receiving a report at 1:51 pm on Monday (August 10), firefighters from the Dalat Fire and Rescue Station were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The fire brigade used a portable water pump and a 400-foot-long hose to draw water from a canal for extinguishing and controlling the fire.
The Fire and Rescue Department stated that firefighters had successfully controlled and extinguished about 3 hectares of the fire area, while approximately 7 hectares remained affected by the blaze.
However, as the canal had dried up, firefighting operations were forced to pause at 4:44 pm.
The firefighters subsequently returned to the fire station, and operations will resume on August 12.
The department noted that there were multiple challenges during the operation, including poor Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN) signal coverage, strong winds causing the fire to spread rapidly, insufficient water sources, and narrow roads hindering the rescue work.
