Ting Chiew Yew Allocates 150,000 to Enhance Special Education Facilities at St. Joseph's Secondary School

(Miri, 23rd) Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Datuk Ting Chiew Yew, through the 2025 Rural Transformation Plan, has allocated RM150,000 to enhance the facilities for the special education program at St. Joseph's Secondary School in Miri to improve the overall learning environment for special education students.

This morning, the deputy minister's private secretary, Chia Kah Furng, led a team along with Miri Public Works Department officials to the school to exchange ideas with the principal, Peter, and school representatives. They conducted an on-site assessment of the current facilities for the special education program to explore the most urgent improvements needed by the school.

Reportedly, St. Joseph's Secondary School currently lacks adequate special education classrooms and related equipment. All special education classes are conducted in a shared open space, severely affecting teaching effectiveness and student concentration. To address this situation, Deputy Minister Ting Chiew Yew specifically applied for funds through this year's Rural Transformation Plan to assist the school in classroom renovation and optimize the layout of the teachers' office space.

Chia Kah Furng stated that the school plans to prioritize the use of these funds for classroom partitioning and space zoning projects to ensure that each special education class can have independent teaching spaces, thereby effectively enhancing teaching efficiency and the student learning experience.

He added that, funds permitting, the remaining resources would be used to improve the hardware and spatial configuration of the teachers' office, creating a more comfortable and efficient teaching and preparation environment for special education teachers.

"Special education students not only need educational input but also a warm and focused learning environment. Once the related projects are completed, not only will the students' learning experience be significantly improved, but it will also help teachers more effectively execute individualized teaching."
