(Bandar Seri Begawan, 5th) To promote traditional Chinese culture and facilitate cultural exchange in the Borneo region, the “2026 First Borneo Red Wolf Cultural Festival” and “Borneo Calligraphy Competition”—jointly organized by Red Wolf Media and Culture, Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei, and the Brunei Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Association—will be grandly held on August 8, 2026 (Saturday) at the Chung Hwa Middle School, Peace Hall. This cultural feast, integrating Brunei, Sarawak, Sabah, and Taiwan, aims to foster the inheritance and development of Chinese calligraphy, poetry, and intangible cultural arts.
Grand Opening Ceremony: The event will welcome guests starting at 8:30 AM, with a solemn opening ceremony at 9:00 AM. Distinguished guests will be received, with opening remarks by Ms. Hoo Moon Lan, Advisor to Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei, and the Festival Chairman. Besides the ribbon-cutting ceremony and a group photo, the festival will present prestigious honors such as the “Borneo Cultural Contribution Award,” “Borneo Chinese Literary Achievement Award,” and “Borneo Chinese Cultural Lifetime Achievement Award.” Afterwards, the guest of honor will announce the calligraphy competition theme and accompany attendees to view the ink art exhibition, officially commencing the on-site calligraphy competition.
Diverse Agenda Combining Academia and Practice: The activities are divided into morning and afternoon sessions, both compact and exciting. At 9:45 AM, the “Brunei–Sarawak–Sabah [Newcomer Challenge Cup]” and “Open Category” on-site calligraphy competitions will start, with around 70 calligraphy talents from Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei, Seri A Mulia Sarjana School, and other primary and secondary schools competing.
Beyond calligraphy, the festival offers enriching cultural lectures. Starting at 10:30 AM, President Wu Kao Chi will moderate, and Mentor Hsu Ching Ping will lead a session on “Cultural Inheritance.” Dr. Yen Ai Lin will then deliver an in-depth literary presentation titled “From ‘Gazing at the Moon’ to ‘A One-Man’s Forbidden City’—Intergenerational Transformation of Emotional Structure in Bruneian Chinese Poetry.”
The afternoon is equally vibrant: Hong Jin Kun and Lang Jue will showcase their poetry films ‘Puning’ and ‘A Kingdom Far Beyond Reach’; Dr. Chou Te Cheng will explore the cutting-edge topic “AI Film and Calligraphy.” Additionally, there will be a “Intangible Heritage Cultural Exchange—Papermaking Workshop” led by the Sabah Kota Kinabalu Calligraphy Association, and a calligraphy ‘Q&A Clinic’ session hosted by Teng Pak Sian, Yang Chin Ming, and Teng Zhan Hua.
Glittering Award Ceremony: At 4:00 PM, the closing and awards ceremony will be held. Eminent figures such as the President of the World Chinese Writers Association, the founding President of Chinese Literary Federation, and the permanent Honorary Chairman of Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei will deliver speeches. The festival will present commemorative trophies to each lecture mentor and jury, and announce the winners of the “Borneo Inter-school Calligraphy Competition,” “Newcomer Challenge Cup,” and “Open On-site Calligraphy Competition.” The event will draw to a close with calligraphy exchange and networking from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
