A large-scale shooting broke out in downtown Los Angeles, California, resulting in at least 2 deaths and 6 injuries. At the time of the incident, a music festival had just concluded, and dozens of people were attending a street party following the festival when multiple gunshots were suddenly heard.
The shooting occurred at around 1 a.m. local time on Monday, near East 14th Street and Griffith Avenue. Police found 8 people shot at the scene, with ages ranging from 26 to 62.
One 29-year-old man died at the scene. Among the 6 injured, at least 2 sustained serious injuries and were sent to the hospital for treatment. A 52-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the hospital due to the severity of her injuries.
Los Angeles held the Hard Summer Music Festival last Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday night, several unauthorized all-night afterparties were held at the location where the shooting occurred.
Around 11 p.m. that night, police officers patrolling the area discovered dozens of people at the illegal gathering, ordered the party to be shut down, and arrested one person for illegal possession of a firearm. However, just a few hours later, police received a report of a shooting at the same site and, upon their return at dawn, found 8 people had been shot.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the shooting, and the cause is still unclear at this time.
Los Angeles Mayor Bass said in a statement: "This kind of senseless violence and loss of life is devastating, and those responsible must be held accountable. The city will not tolerate violence, and my heart is with the victims and their families."
