Taiwan Affairs Office: Sanctioning Companies Associated with DPP Legislator Shen Boyang

Published at Jun 05, 2025 02:15 pm
On the 5th, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of China, announced that after investigation, Shen Tucheng, father of "Taiwan independence" hardliner Shen Boyang, is the person in charge of Taiwan Zhanyi Co., Ltd. This company has trade dealings and business cooperation with certain enterprises in mainland China, profiting economically. Mainland China will not allow companies associated with "Taiwan independence" hardliners to profit in mainland China, and has decided to impose sanctions on Zhanyi Co., Ltd. It is prohibited from engaging in any transactions or cooperation with mainland Chinese organizations, companies, or individuals, and other necessary measures will be taken against it.

● Never allowing companies associated with "Taiwan independence" figures to profit in the mainland

Reports indicate that since 2008, Shen Tucheng's Taiwan Zhanyi Co., Ltd. has had trade relations with companies in Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Fujian, using a buy-low-sell-high strategy to resell products to countries like Ecuador, earning a profit margin. When responding on the 4th, DPP legislator Shen Boyang did not deny that his father had engaged in trade cooperation with mainland China firms, only stating that his family is in the trading business. Shen Boyang also emphasized that his father has not been to mainland China for six years.

In October last year, the Taiwan Affairs Office announced that it had listed 43-year-old Taiwanese DPP legislator Shen Boyang as a stubborn supporter of Taiwan independence, prohibiting him and his family from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. They also stated that they would not allow related enterprises and sponsors to profit in mainland China, holding them accountable for life.

Shen Boyang holds a Ph.D. in Legal Sociology from the University of California, Irvine. After returning to Taiwan in 2017, he taught at the Graduate Institute of Criminology at Taipei University, and he began researching information warfare against Taiwan by mainland China, expanding his research to cognitive warfare, and occasionally giving interviews on related topics.

In 2021, he co-founded "Black Bear Academy," Taiwan's first civil defense organization, promoting national defense education with strategic scholar He Chenghui, and received investment from the former chairman of United Microelectronics Corporation, Cao Xingcheng. Due to Black Bear Academy's long-term advocacy of "anti-China and safeguarding Taiwan," it has been questioned as a side wing of the DPP. Last year, the Taiwan Affairs Office also imposed sanctions on Black Bear Academy.

● Shen Boyang responds: Mainland China's manipulation of ideology is rather foolish

In response to mainland China's Taiwan Affairs Office sanctioning the company founded by his father, Shen Boyang stated that this action manipulates ideology and is foolish, only damaging the interests of mainland China's own people.

Shen Boyang later responded via video, stating that the back-to-back sanctions imposed on him and his family by mainland China within a year are because his efforts in Taiwan, including legislative restrictions on visits to mainland China and cooperation with united front actions, made the mainland unhappy.

He described the sanction decision by mainland China as "very foolish," explaining that his father's company primarily engages in trade with Central and South America, assisting firms in various regions to procure raw materials and parts, including collaborating with South Korean car manufacturers to purchase automotive parts from mainland China, essentially creating export opportunities for mainland China.
