The Korean dramas "Eun-soo's Good Day" starring Lee Young-ae and "The Twelve Apostles" starring Ma Dong-seok have collectively lost 10.7 billion won (approximately 30.36 million ringgit), becoming colossal failures for Korea’s KBS channel. The KBS headquarters issued a strong statement, directly criticizing current president Park Jang-beom (transliteration) and senior management as incompetent.
The statement noted: "President Park Jang-beom personally selected 'The Twelve Apostles' and 'Eun-soo's Good Day' as KBS's flagship works and heavily promoted them, but they both ended in disastrous failure, bringing only heavy burdens to KBS." It bluntly called their judgment in drama selection shockingly poor.
According to Korean media reports, "The Twelve Apostles" was heavily criticized during its run for having an illogical plot and crude CGI, ultimately ending with a low 2.4% viewership rating; "Eun-soo's Good Day" had an even bigger investment, with KBS spending about 1.06 billion won (around 3 million ringgit) per episode, which is considered a very high expenditure. As both dramas were produced externally rather than in-house at KBS, criticism has arisen: "If KBS had produced them itself, at least directors and production teams could have gained experience. Now, however, they’ve simply paid high prices to purchase external productions, resulting in nothing but deficits and no positive benefits at all."
