(Hong Kong, 7th) The Hong Kong Legislative Council election is being held on the 7th. All 615 general polling stations across the territory opened at 7:30 a.m. and closed at 11:30 p.m., giving a total voting time of 16 hours, which is two hours longer than the last election.

This election has also set up special polling stations for civil servants, medical staff, and residents of institutions. Due to the fire in Tai Po, three polling stations in the district have been relocated. Voters affected, such as those at Wang Fuk Court, must go to the new designated polling stations to vote.

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu went to the polling station with his wife early in the morning to cast their votes. Afterwards, when meeting the media, John Lee once again called on all eligible Hong Kong voters to cast their crucial vote to elect capable and aspirational Legislative Council members. This is a vote that represents driving reform, a vote for safeguarding disaster victims, and a vote for uniting strength and moving forward together.

John Lee said that the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po made everyone very saddened; the government is fully engaged in aftermath work and investigating the truth, while also promoting systematic reforms to prevent such tragedies from happening again.

John Lee stated that the elected legislators will work closely with the government to fully promote post-disaster reconstruction, actively review and update relevant laws, and work together to build a safer Hong Kong so that citizens can live with greater peace of mind.
