(Kuala Lumpur, 4th) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid pointed out that Malaysia and the British Franchise Association will establish a joint committee to strengthen our country's franchise ecosystem in the UK.
He said that this plan will serve as a support platform to assist Malaysian franchise brands in entering the UK market next year.
"There are many opportunities for Malaysian enterprises to expand their franchise business in the UK, especially in halal-related fields such as food, traditional medicine, and cosmetics.
"I will serve as the chairman of the Franchise Cabinet Committee. I will receive immediate progress reports and review the results every six months during the committee meetings, which are held twice a year."
He said this at a press conference in London.
Earlier, he attended the Malaysia-UK Franchise Business Dialogue, which was part of his four-day working visit to the UK.
Ahmad Zahid mentioned that Malaysia is also committed to supporting the franchise ecosystem through the financing policy of the People’s Trust Council (MARA) and digital grants from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), with the aim of achieving RM 100 billion in sales by 2030.
He said that both parties will engage in closer cooperation, encouraging UK franchise owners to enter the ASEAN market through Malaysia while promoting Malaysian brands entering the UK market through the proposed joint committee.
