US-Iran Negotiations: Tehran Says There's a 'Good Start'

The top Iranian diplomat stated on the 6th that the US-Iran nuclear talks, mediated by Oman, have had a 'good start' and will continue. These remarks may help ease external concerns that the failure of the negotiations could push the Middle East to the brink of war.

However, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi also said after the talks in Muscat, Oman’s capital: 'Any dialogue needs to avoid threats and pressure. (Tehran) is only discussing nuclear issues...We are not discussing any other topics with the United States.'

The US and Iranian delegations arrived one after another on the morning of the 6th local time at a palace on the outskirts of Muscat, Oman, with the talks delayed by an hour from the originally scheduled time. The US delegation was composed of Special Envoy Witkoff, President Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, and General Cooper, commander of US Central Command in the Middle East; Iran was represented by Foreign Minister Araghchi. The negotiations were conducted indirectly, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr acting as an intermediary.

Mehdi, Deputy Director of Communications and Information Affairs at the Iranian President’s Office, said after the meeting, 'The mission entrusted to the Foreign Minister by the President was properly fulfilled today in Muscat, that is, within the framework of national interests, and in accordance with the principles of ‘dignity, wisdom, and expediency’, to create conditions for just and fair negotiations.'

●Oman: US-Iran Talks 'Very Serious'

Omani Foreign Minister Badr stated on social media on the 6th that the talks between Iran and the United States in Muscat that day were 'very serious.'

He said this is helpful for both sides to clarify their positions and to determine in which areas progress is possible. All parties plan to hold talks again at an appropriate time, and both the US and Iran will take the results of the negotiations back to their respective capitals for careful study.

The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General stated on the 6th that Guterres hopes the talks will help ease regional tensions and prevent the crisis from escalating.
