(Miri, 14th) Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said that the Gawai Festival is not only an important festival for the Dayak community to celebrate harvest and gratitude, but also an important platform to unite community bonds and promote racial harmony.
Speaking at the 'Gawai Festival Celebration Event' at the Miri Elderly Service Center this morning, he pointed out that the significance of the Gawai Festival is profound. It symbolizes the end of the harvest season and marks the beginning of rest, reflection, and celebration. Whether in rural longhouses or urban communities, the festive atmosphere is filled with enthusiasm and cultural diversity.
"I particularly want to thank the Miri Elderly Service Center for organizing this celebration every year, making this festival an important cultural event in the community's annual calendar."

Adam Yii noted that the event this morning was particularly precious as it brought together people from different ethnic groups and backgrounds to celebrate together, fully reflecting the racial harmony and cultural integration that our society values.
"In Malaysia, whether it's Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Christmas, or Gawai, every celebration is a reflection of mutual respect and unity, and is the most beautiful landscape of our multicultural society."
He also encouraged the seniors present to make good use of the facilities and platforms provided by the Elderly Service Center. They should not only participate in celebrations during festivals but should frequently join in various health activities, exercises, and social events to maintain an active lifestyle and continue physical and mental well-being.
