(Miri, 24th) Organized by the Sarawak Archery Association, the "Sarawak Youth Archery Championship Series 1" grandly opened today at the Miri Sports Complex. The three-day event will run until May 26, attracting young archers from across Sarawak to gather and hone their skills.

This championship is divided by age groups, with categories for under 10, 12, 15, and 21 years old. It aims to promote archery, strengthen young people's awareness of discipline, focus, and healthy living, and lay the foundation for nurturing future national-level archers.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Alan Ling Sie Kiong , director of the Malaysian Sports Council, who attended on behalf of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh. He handed over a mock cheque of RM25,000 to the Sarawak Archery Association. This fund, from the Youth and Sports Ministry's sports package grant, is primarily for equipment enhancement, coach training, and grassroots event organization key development areas.

In his speech, Alan Ling Sie Kiong stated: "Archery is not only a sport that requires skill and focus, but also a way to train willpower and discipline. We believe that by continuously organizing such events, we can ignite young people's passion for sports, uncover and cultivate more potential athletes, paving the way to becoming national representatives."

He emphasized that the federal government will continue to assist state sports associations in creating more systematic and competitive development platforms through diverse support mechanisms, to promote a national exercise culture and cultivate all-rounded talent.

The event received enthusiastic responses and support from many schools and parents, with some participants having been trained from a young age, showcasing outstanding competitive standards. The organizers hope that through such competitions, they can enhance community awareness and participation in archery, further solidifying Sarawak’s important position on the national archery stage.

The "Sarawak Youth Archery Championship Series 1" is not only a competitive event but also a youth sports carnival of planting dreams, inspiring potential, and gathering hope.
