(Song, 6th) — The Sarawak government is actively implementing various plans, upgrading and improving the supply of treated water, electricity, and telecommunications in Song District, to ensure that local residents enjoy stable and continuous public facility services.
Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak’s Minister for Utilities and Telecommunication, pointed out that these projects are part of the integrated plan formulated by the Sarawak government for the central region, aiming to provide a sustainable and comprehensive public facility network.
“All the current plans, upgrades, and improvement works are being implemented to meet residents’ needs before 2030. All progress is proceeding smoothly as planned,” he said.
He made these remarks yesterday after chairing a special briefing session at the Song District Office, stating that the current daily supply of purified water in Song District has reached 8 million liters (MLD), thanks to a newly commissioned water treatment plant, which has added a capacity of 4 million liters.
In addition, the Sarawak government has approved the construction of a new water treatment plant with a daily capacity of 20 million liters, at an estimated cost of RM140 million, along with the construction of a water grid system to improve the efficiency of water supply distribution in Song District.
Julaihi pointed out that the construction of the water grid system will be advanced simultaneously with power grid and telecommunications tower plans to ensure more stable provision of public facilities in remote areas.
“All these projects are funded by the Sarawak government, and works are proceeding smoothly. This will ensure that the people of Song District receive higher quality and consistent supply of water, electricity and communication services,” he emphasized.
He added that the state government is also implementing the Water Grid Master Plan, which will connect Song District with Kapit, Kanowit, and other areas in the central region of Sarawak (including Sibu, Sarikei, and Mukah), forming a comprehensive water grid system covering the whole of Sarawak.
