Boasting with Million Worth of Jewelry Backfires as 17-Year-Old Huang Yangdian's Civil Servant Father Under Investigation

17-year-old Chinese TV star Huang Yangdian recently celebrated her coming-of-age, and to match her dress, she wore her mother's emerald earrings, sharing beautiful photos with her fans. However, netizens identified the piece as a GRAFF jewelry item, valued at 2.3 million RMB (approximately 1.36 million MYR). Her father is merely a civil servant in Ya'an, Sichuan, and her mother is a housewife, causing suspicion and public scrutiny over their flaunting wealth seemingly inconsistent with their income. Her father issued a statement claiming the earrings were replicas in an attempt to quell the situation, but experts noted that the jewelry in the video exhibited 'fire', which is the optical effect of light dispersion in gemstones, suggesting it might be genuine. Today, Xinhua News Agency further announced that her father, Yang, as a civil servant, is under investigation for illegally engaging in business and violating the two-child policy. Her ostentatious display could potentially land her father in jail, seemingly turning against her own family.

Previously, netizens were skeptical about her father's handling of relief funds during the Sichuan earthquake, suspecting possible embezzlement for personal gain. However, the announcement clarified that Yang had not been involved in the bidding for post-disaster reconstruction projects and had not misappropriated any funds. Netizens also wondered why Huang Yangdian, whose father is surnamed Yang and mother surname Si, carries the surname Huang. Some suggested that 'Huang' comes from her grandmother, possibly used to circumvent the one-child policy at the time, with the surname being given to her younger brother, as indeed she later had a brother.
