U.S. President Trump announced the establishment of a “Peace Committee,” and Vietnam promptly agreed to join after receiving the invitation.
Vietnam is the first Southeast Asian country to agree to join.
Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary To Lam announced two days after receiving the invitation that Vietnam would join the committee as a founding member country.
The Vietnamese government issued a press release stating that To Lam, who is currently busy leading the 14th National Congress of the Vietnamese Communist Party this week, replied to Trump’s invitation by letter, expressing that Vietnam has always supported the international community working together to resolve conflicts and disputes by peaceful means.
Vietnam stated it is willing, as a founding member of the "Peace Committee," to work together with the United States and the international community to contribute to a long-term and comprehensive solution to the Middle East peace process, including the establishment of a Palestinian state that peacefully coexists with Israel.
To Lam also took the opportunity to propose to the United States to continue strengthening cooperation, “to further develop the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in a substantial and effective way... and to actively contribute to regional and global peace, cooperation, and development.”
9 Countries Including Indonesia and Saudi Arabia Join
The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the 21st that Saudi Arabia, together with seven other predominantly Muslim countries, including Gaza mediator Qatar and Turkey, have agreed to join the “Peace Committee” established by U.S. President Trump.
In a joint statement, Saudi Arabia said that the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates have “jointly decided” to join this organization chaired by Trump, and expressed their support for Trump's peace efforts to resolve the Gaza conflict.
In addition, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on the X platform that they have also accepted Trump's invitation and decided to join the “Peace Committee.”
Nevertheless, many of the dozens of invited countries have responded cautiously to joining the “Peace Committee.” Following France, Norway and Sweden have also declined to join.
