Accused of Involvement in Myanmar Money Laundering, Zhao Wei Furious and Sues a Bunch of People

Recently, a widely circulated article on Chinese social media titled “Li Xiang, Zhao Wei, Huang Youlong—The Collapse of a Cross-border Black Money Chain!” claimed that Zhao Wei, her ex-husband Huang Youlong, and famous host Li Xiang were involved in cross-border money laundering activities with Myanmar scam ringleader She Zhijiang. The article also alleges that, after She Zhijiang’s extradition to China in November 2025, Zhao Wei’s equity was frozen and Li Xiang’s social media accounts were blocked. In response, Zhao Wei’s brother Zhao Jian angrily accused some bloggers of maliciously fabricating rumors about Zhao Wei just to generate web traffic, describing her as a 'traffic leech.' Over the past six months, they have reported and filed complaints with the police in both Beijing and Shanghai regarding these falsehoods. Zhao Wei herself reposted her brother’s statement and emphasized that legal proceedings are underway, although the process is time-consuming. This marks her first public response since her ban five years ago. Li Xiang’s ex-husband, director Wang Yuelun, also stated that he has authorized lawyers to handle the matter.

The controversial article originated from the WeChat public account “Xinjun Message,” and its claims were further spread by financial bloggers on Weibo. The content alleges that after scam leader She Zhijiang is extradited to China in November 2025, connections are exposed between him and his cousin Huang Youlong, unravelling a money laundering network. Li Xiang is described as a “money-laundering white glove,” whereas Zhao Wei allegedly transferred stolen funds through offshore companies, with details cited about luxury properties, wineries, and Picasso artworks.

Zhao Wei’s brother Zhao Jian expressed heartfelt pain, saying he is saddened and grieved by such fabricated reports. “It’s painful that these obviously fake stories are so widely reposted and further spread by self-media desperately chasing for traffic. It’s also sad that, after years of saying the internet isn’t above the law, so many people still try their luck at breaking the law.” He said that in the past six months, he has filed police reports in both Beijing and Shanghai, and the WeChat and Weibo bloggers who spread the article are on their litigation list. “We know that defending our rights will be a long road, but we firmly believe that if we persist, there will be results.” Zhao Wei reposted her brother’s article and said, “The lawsuits have been ongoing—the handling process is relatively lengthy, and the results can’t be seen immediately.” She asked fans to understand.
Wang Yuelun and Li Xiang (right) have a daughter, Wang Shiling. Even after their divorce, they maintain a good relationship.
Wang Yuelun also posted a photo with ex-wife Li Xiang and daughter Wang Shiling (Angela), to refute rumors concerning Li Xiang: “There are so many outrageous rumors going around online lately! I can’t help but laugh and cry at them. Not even screenwriters are this creative… Things like Angela dropping out of school, or involvement in northern Myanmar scams—so much nonsense… Please stop spreading rumors! Let it go... Life isn’t easy for anyone! Please pay more attention to yourself and your family—they are the ones who need your concern most! Thanks also to our legal team and major platforms for helping us fight against defamation and rumor-mongering!”

The Controversial Article Is Said to Be AI-Generated

Additionally, many netizens have pointed out numerous errors in the article and speculate it was AI-generated. For example, She Zhijiang was actually arrested in Thailand in August 2022, not 2025; when Huang Youlong left home in 1993, She Zhijiang was only 10 and couldn’t have worked in organized crime with him; there are no records of financial dealings between Li Xiang and Huang Youlong; and Zhao Wei does not own any Picasso paintings. Moreover, if these allegations were true, state media would have already issued an official report.
