The fire tragedy at Hong Kong’s Tai Po Wang Fuk Court has resulted in heavy casualties. Diva G.E.M. (Gloria Tang) was deeply concerned for her hometown and recently announced a donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (about 530,000 ringgit) for rescue and post-disaster rebuilding efforts. On November 29, during her I AM GLORIA world tour concert in Nanning, Guangxi, China, she broke down in tears on stage at the very beginning, heartbroken over the disaster.

As the concert opened, G.E.M.'s eyes were already brimming with tears. She confessed, “I didn’t expect my emotions to come so quickly today.” Choking back tears, she told her fans that whenever she asked, “How have you all been these past two years?” she couldn't help but get emotional. To calm herself, she decided to start the show by expressing her feelings.

G.E.M. then began to cry, her voice trembling as she said: “These past few days...have been very hard for Hong Kong. I don't know how many of you have been following the news.” Seeing this, the audience immediately shouted “Don’t cry,” “Stay strong,” to encourage her. After wiping away her tears, G.E.M. continued to share: “Honestly, when I saw the news, I felt that so much happens on this planet every single day. But by bringing the I AM GLORIA tour to you in times like these, the hope is to give everyone strength.”

G.E.M. expressed that while she may not be able to do much, she has always hoped to use music to bring strength to people’s lives, encouraging those facing hardships: “Whether you are directly affected by the current disaster, or facing your own difficulties and challenges in life, I just really want to know that you are living, striving, and staying positive.”
