‘TVB Anniversary Awards 2025’: Joel Chan Pulls Out All the Stops to Win Best Actor, Charmaine Sheh and Jessica Hsuan Vie for Best Actress

On the 24th, TVB announced the list of nominations for the Anniversary Awards Ceremony. Among the nominees, already-departed leading lady Ali Lee and 'Pop Princess' Gigi Yan became the focus of attention. Ali Lee will compete with hot favorites Charmaine Sheh and Jessica Hsuan for the Best Actress crown; in order to win Best Actor again, Joel Chan resorted to incentives when canvassing for votes at the event, and rival Bosco Wong immediately countered by joking that he’ll go out for meals every day to pull in votes—everyone is using their unique strategies!

The annual event, ‘TVB Anniversary Awards 2025’, will take place on January 4 next year. On the 24th, the nomination list was released, with over 40 artists attending, though none of the Best Actress nominees were present. The race for Best Actor is fierce: Joel Chan, Moses Chan, Bosco Wong, Shaun Tam, and Owen Cheung each have two nominated dramas. Notably, ‘Detective Investigation Files 12’ stars Bowie Lam and Joel Chan, ‘Kin’s Forest’ stars Roger Kwok and Bosco Wong, and ‘News Queen 2’ features Bosco Wong with strong performances—all are seen as hot favorites.

As expected, the Best Actress race sees Charmaine Sheh from 'News Queen 2' facing off against Jessica Hsuan from 'After the Tower' and 'The Enforcers'. Unexpectedly, Ali Lee, who has already left the company, is also nominated for her role in ‘Sparrow Orchestra’! Additionally, another former artist, Gigi Yan, is also on the list, nominated for Best TV Song with 'The Most Moving One'.

This year’s Best Actor, Joel Chan, has earned nominations for both Best Actor and Best TV Song with ‘Fatal Clue’ and ‘Detective Investigation Files 12’. While canvassing for votes on stage, he stated he wants to win two years in a row, promising that if he wins again, he’ll pay for company cafeteria drinks with an extra HKD2 (about RM1) for two days, and he’ll also work to get two additional electric vehicle charging spots at the company. He laughed in interviews, saying he used incentives to benefit everyone; Bosco Wong, nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for ‘Kin’s Forest’ and ‘The Enforcers’ respectively, immediately followed suit upon hearing Joel’s tactic on stage! When asked if he’s confident, he humbly replied: “No, I need every viewer’s vote. (Are you confident?) The competition is fierce every year, and many actors are more outstanding than I am. My confidence comes from having a character who is very likeable and almost perfect, like a modern-day Zhuge Liang.” As for how he’ll campaign for votes? He said whether online or offline, he hopes to participate in every event. #
