(Kuching, 21st) The Sarawak boxing team recently embarked on an intensive training program in Thailand to prepare for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA). This training camp not only comprehensively enhances the boxers’ abilities, but also provides them with opportunities to spar with higher-level opponents, allowing them to adapt to high-intensity competitions in advance.
The 2026 Malaysia Games will be held from August 15 to 24 next year in Selangor.
Sarawak SUKMA boxing team manager Dato Johnny Ting Su King stated that arranging for the boxers to train in the “Land of White Elephants” Thailand was mainly to enable them to receive more professional and systematic training.
He said, “Our intention in arranging for the boxers to train in Thailand is to enhance their overall performance in every aspect.”
“During the entire training period, we focused on strengthening several key areas.”
In an interview with Arena Suara Sarawak, the sports edition of ‘Suara Sarawak’, he said that the training emphasized improving the boxers’ physical fitness, endurance, and basic conditioning to thoroughly prepare them for official competitions.
Johnny Ting pointed out that the three-week training camp in Thailand also further strengthened the boxers’ fundamental techniques under the guidance of professional coaches, while enhancing their attacking and defensive skills, as well as their practical abilities in real matches.
“At the same time, they are able to gain valuable competition experience by training and playing warm-up matches with outstanding boxers from various regions in Thailand.”
“In addition, this training also helps to strengthen team spirit, self-discipline, professionalism, and fosters a positive mindset and higher sportsmanship.”
