(Kuching, 29th) The 28th Rainforest World Music Festival successfully concluded last night, with thousands gathering at Sarawak Cultural Village to immerse themselves in a vibrant atmosphere of music, culture, and joy, offering an early preview for the grand 30th anniversary celebration to be held next year.
The closing performance on Sunday (June 28) brought together performing groups from Sarawak, various parts of Malaysia, and overseas, presenting a spectacular show that fused indigenous traditional music, modern folk, jazz, and world music, continuing the festival’s longstanding tradition of diversity as an annual international musical event.
Sarawak-based groups Ta’dan and Suk Binie opened with performances rich in local cultural essence. They were followed by Drum Up from the Philippines, Fergana Cultural Group from Uzbekistan, and ASIA7 from Thailand, showcasing Asia’s diverse musical traditions to the audience.
After a continuing performance by AkashA from Peninsular Malaysia, famed UK acid jazz band Incognito took the stage as the finale, igniting the crowd and bringing the three-day music festival to an enthusiastic close.
This year’s Rainforest World Music Festival was once again a success. Despite earlier concerns that rising airfares might affect attendance, the three-day event still attracted thousands of local and international visitors.
With the conclusion of this year’s festival, attention now turns to the 30th Rainforest World Music Festival to be held in 2027. Organizers plan to unveil upgraded stage designs, improved festival facilities, and invite an even stronger lineup of international headline artists, aiming to make the 30th anniversary celebration the largest and most representative festival in the event’s history.
