UN Security Council Voices Support for Qatar without Naming Israel

The 15 member states of the United Nations Security Council, including the United States, unanimously condemned the attack on Doha, the capital of Qatar, on the 9th, but did not directly name Israel.

On the 11th, the UN Security Council issued a media statement condemning the airstrike on Doha on the 9th, expressing solidarity with Qatar, and emphasizing support for Qatar's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement said that Security Council members reaffirm their support for Qatar's continued key role in mediating regional conflicts and urged all parties to seize the opportunity for peace.

The United States Agreed to Pass the Statement

This statement was unanimously adopted by Security Council members, including the United States.

The United States has long vetoed draft Security Council resolutions condemning Israel or those unfavorable to Israel. Some media outlets believe that the rare U.S. agreement to pass this statement reflects President Trump's dissatisfaction with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s order to launch an attack within the territory of the U.S. ally Qatar.

The Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet said on the 9th that they carried out a "precision strike" that day against Hamas leadership present in Doha. Hamas said that, at the time of the airstrike, its negotiation delegation was discussing the latest Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by the United States. Five Palestinians and one member of the Qatari Internal Security Forces were killed, but Israel's assassination attempt against senior Hamas officials "did not succeed."

Qatar Holds Funeral for Attack Victims

On the 11th, Qatar held a funeral in its capital Doha for the victims of the Israeli attack, attended by Emir Tamim (the country's head of state). Photos released by Hamas show two senior Hamas officials attending the funeral.
