A student in Thailand was severely punished with as many as 800 squats (Squats) by his teacher for failing to submit homework, resulting in physical discomfort and requiring hospitalization.

According to Thai media 'The Thaiger' citing local media 'เจ๊ม้อย v+', the victim's father complained to the media that his son came home after school complaining of severe pain. Seeing that something was wrong, the family quickly took him to the hospital for examination.

Initial blood test results from doctors indicated that the student's kidney function was still normal, but a key muscle enzyme test would take 3 days to confirm whether serious complications like rhabdomyolysis had developed.

Currently, doctors have ordered the student to remain bedridden, keeping his legs elevated, with no walking allowed for at least 3 days, and to drink 3 liters of water daily to maintain metabolism.

The victim's father expressed deep distress and concern over the incident. He emphasized that extreme corporal punishment methods can easily result in muscle tears or other serious injuries. He called on the school to review its punishment system and suggested using safer alternatives, such as cleaning the campus.

Additionally, the nurse responsible for the examination revealed a shocking fact. The nurse said that recently, two other female students at the same school had also developed symptoms and been hospitalized due to similar punishments, raising questions about the school’s disciplinary practices.

In fact, campus violence and excessive corporal punishment in Thailand are not new issues. In December last year, a similar case occurred in Udon Thani Province, where a 10-year-old boy, allegedly for teasing a female classmate, was kneed in the abdomen and kicked by his teacher, resulting in costal cartilage inflammation and sparking public outcry.
