(Kuching, 10th) A delegation led by Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel is currently visiting Copenhagen, Denmark, for a technical study tour to explore advanced hydrogen and green methanol production technologies, with the aim of promoting the sustainable development of Sarawak’s petrochemical and green bunkering industries.
The delegation includes the Chairman of Sarawak Petchem Sdn Bhd, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, as well as several representatives from Sarawak Petchem. During the trip, the team held two important exchanges with two global leaders in clean energy technology—Topsoe and Carbon Recycling International (CRI).
While visiting Topsoe’s Solid Oxide Electrolyser Cell (SOEC) facilities, the team received briefings on how the company achieves efficient hydrogen production through high-temperature electrolysis.
Topsoe’s SOEC technology is renowned for its high efficiency and low energy consumption, offering better performance compared to traditional electrolyzers, and is seen as a potential breakthrough in green hydrogen development.
The meeting was hosted by Topsoe’s Acting CEO, Elena Scaltritti, and Chief Commercial Officer of the Power-to-X business, Sundus Cordelia Ramli, accompanied by the technical team for introductions.
Muhammad Abdullah stated that this visit marks a crucial step for Sarawak Petchem in evaluating electrolysis technologies and preparing for low-carbon and green methanol projects.
He said: "Sarawak continues to explore and introduce cutting-edge technologies to strengthen its leadership in a sustainable economy.
Collaborating with international technology leaders such as Topsoe will help us find the most efficient and sustainable paths to realize Sarawak’s vision for a renewable economy."
In addition, the delegation held productive talks with Carbon Recycling International (CRI), the world’s first company to use captured carbon dioxide and green hydrogen to produce green methanol.
CRI CEO Lotte Rosenberg and Head of Business Development Oliver Vindex Nielsen hosted the Sarawak delegation and discussed possible cooperation on the green methanol plant project that Sarawak Petchem plans to build.
Muhammad Abdullah noted that Sarawak hopes to draw on CRI’s pioneering experience in green methanol project development to ensure the successful implementation of relevant plans in the state and support sustainable green bunkering solutions in Bintulu.
The CRI team expressed their full support for Sarawak’s efforts and commended the state’s firm commitment to advancing the global energy transition goals.
