Chief of General Staff: IDF Withdrawal Line Is Gaza's 'New Border'

Published at Dec 08, 2025 12:13 pm
On the 7th, IDF Chief of General Staff Zamir stated that the military withdrawal line demarcated according to the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, known as the 'yellow line,' is Gaza's 'new border.'

While inspecting Gaza, he said that the 'yellow line' is Gaza's 'new border,' serving as both Israel's forward defense line and the boundary for IDF operations. Israel has operational control over large areas of Gaza and will continue to hold these defense lines.

According to the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, areas outside the 'yellow line' remain under IDF control, while the IDF will no longer station troops or operate inside the 'yellow line.'

Since the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement took effect in October, clashes between Israel and Hamas have continued, with both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire. Israel has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the pace at which Hamas has handed over the remains of detained persons. Currently, there is still one Israeli captive's body in Gaza.

At the same time, the IDF has repeatedly shot Palestinian individuals who crossed the 'yellow line', accusing Hamas militants of 'crossing the line' to launch attacks. According to the Palestinian News Agency, since the first phase of the ceasefire agreement took effect, more than 370 Palestinians have died in Gaza.

On the 7th, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, after meeting with visiting German Chancellor Merz, said that the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire is about to end and is expected to enter the second phase 'soon.' He will meet with U.S. President Trump later this month to discuss how to end Hamas's 'rule in Gaza.'
