Sarawak Metro Leads the Launch of Malaysia's First ART System TVET Training Course

(Kuching, 28th) Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd is spearheading the formulation of the nation's first Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) course module for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, aiming to nurture local talents with professional skills to support Sarawak's future urban transportation operations and development needs.
To kick off this initiative, Sarawak Metro recently collaborated with EMG JV, the main system package contractor for Phase One of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project, to host the inaugural TVET Module Workshop 2025.
EMG JV comprises EPR Kuching Sdn Bhd, Mobilus Ltd, and Global Rail Ltd.
This workshop was held under the framework of the Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) Programme initiated by Sarawak Metro, and the theme was: "Powering Malaysia’s First MRO TVET Module for ART Systems – Together, We Build the Future."
This event marks a significant step for the country in formulating a dedicated TVET module for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) of ART systems.
Sarawak Metro's Chief Executive Officer, Ts. Mazli Mustaffa, stated that the workshop is an important milestone in building a future-oriented transportation talent pool for Sarawak and will provide manpower support for the state's sustainable urban transport transformation.
"Through the ART system, Sarawak Metro is promoting sustainable urban transportation, which is not only a technological breakthrough, but also a mission in human capital development. To successfully operate and maintain this system, we must have skilled, capable, and future-oriented local talent."
Mazli pointed out that the workshop gathered industry experts and training institutions to jointly develop a well-structured TVET curriculum tailored specifically for the ART system in the KUTS project.
The main objectives include:
· Identifying core course content and learning outcomes for ART system maintenance and repair;
· Ensuring the courses align with international industry and safety standards;
· Incorporating hydrogen technology knowledge related to the ART system.
He emphasized that this initiative exemplifies best cross-sector collaboration by bringing together technical expertise, educational insights, and local knowledge to cultivate adaptable talent for Sarawak’s sustainable transportation ecosystem.
"We are not just designing a course, but building capabilities, creating opportunities, and nurturing the next generation of transportation industry professionals in Sarawak."
Meanwhile, Sarawak Metro’s Project Director Zafrin Zakaria expressed gratitude for the company's collaboration with contractors in developing the training courses.
"I look forward to seeing more such collaborations in the future, as these initiatives are crucial for cultivating young talents who will be the key force behind supporting our project and operations going forward."
This TVET Module Workshop 2025 provides a platform for industry and academic institutions to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and formulate practical outcomes, contributing to the successful implementation and long-term operation of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS).
