Nobel Physics Prize laureate and Academia Sinica Academician Yang Zhenning passed away on the 18th at the remarkable age of 103. His farewell ceremony was held on the morning of the 24th in the Grand Hall of Beijing Babaoshan Funeral Home.
According to Jimu News, people from all walks of life came to pay their respects. At the parking lot near the cemetery, a queue stretching dozens of meters formed as people waited.
Mentioning Yang Zhenning, an elderly lady at the scene was moved to tears, her voice choked: "When I truly saw such a person, I admired and respected him deeply."
Yang Zhenning was one of the first Chinese Nobel Prize winners, and before his passing was also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and honorary dean of the Institute for Advanced Study at Tsinghua.
From October 18th to 24th, the Institute for Advanced Study at Tsinghua University in Beijing set up a “Yang Zhenning Memorial Room” on the first floor of the Science Building to receive visitors offering condolences.
