(Kuching, 10th) Sarawak continues to achieve remarkable results on the international stage, further solidifying its global standing through steady progress in the fields of health, scientific research, and nation-building.
Sarawak Central Hospital has now been recognized as one of Malaysia’s top research hospitals and has been selected by an international pharmaceutical company as the first hospital in the Asia-Pacific region to conduct high-risk clinical trials of new drugs—marking a new milestone in Sarawak's medical research field.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian pointed out that this achievement proves that Sarawak is no longer just a user of medical technology, but has become an important contributor to the development of global medical science.
He said: “This demonstrates that Sarawak has the capability to be on par with developed countries in the fields of medicine and scientific research. Despite facing various constraints and challenges, our state's medical personnel’s professionalism and commitment have never wavered.”
He made the above remarks while attending the 2025 MPHLG Awards Ceremony in Kuching yesterday.
Sim Kui Hian also mentioned that the Sarawak medical team successfully performed fetal surgery to save a baby's life, which is among the earliest cases nationally—fully showcasing the maturity and strength of local medical expertise.
“This is not only a clinical achievement, but also symbolizes the international community’s strong confidence and recognition of Sarawak doctors and medical teams,” he said.
Currently, Sarawak is also actively participating in numerous international clinical research projects and cooperating with global research institutions and pharmaceutical companies. This not only promotes the transfer of technology and professional skills but also injects new momentum into local medical development.
Sim Kui Hian pointed out that these achievements stem from the state government's long-term emphasis on human capital development, strengthening the healthcare system, and making strategic investments in scientific research.
