(Kuching, 22nd) The Kuching Waterfront will host the 'Sarawak Digital Mall (SDM) Pesta Lokal' from January 23rd to 24th.
This two-day event will run daily from 10am to 11pm, marking the outcome of 18 months of collaboration between the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and TikTok Shop Malaysia. It aims to assist Sarawak’s micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in enhancing competitiveness and entering the national digital market.
One of the event’s highlights is the inaugural presentation of the 'Sarawak Digital Mall Icon', which recognizes outstanding local businesses excelling in digitalization, growth potential, and national market expansion.
SDEC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir Ts Sudarnoto Osman said that Pesta Lokal exemplifies the resilience and determination of Sarawakian entrepreneurs embracing digital transformation.
He said, “Pesta Lokal is a celebration of entrepreneurial resilience and the spirit of going the extra mile. It vividly showcases the progress achieved over the past 18 months, and also demonstrates how Sarawak’s unique identity is presented through modern digital business.”
Under the Sarawak Digital Mall initiative—led by SDEC, supported by TikTok Shop Malaysia and the Ministry for International Trade, Industry and Investment, Sarawak (MINTRED)—hundreds of local entrepreneurs have received systematic training, livestream exposure, and use of social commerce tools, expanding their business beyond Sarawak.
In addition to the SDM Icon recognition and awards ceremony, the event will also present the 'Sarawak Seller Excellence Awards', recognizing outstanding achievements in categories such as ‘Best Livestream Seller’ and ‘Best New Seller’.
The public is also welcome to visit the 'Local Sellers Market', appreciate Sarawak-made products, and interact directly with the entrepreneurs behind these digital stores.
Top-performing Sarawak sellers and Malaysian brands will host livestream sales sessions at the event, while a 'Creator Pairing Program' will facilitate collaborations between Sarawakian creators and sellers from both Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, strengthening connections between East and West Malaysia.
TikTok Shop Malaysia’s Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships, Nur Azre Abd Aziz, said the company remains committed to empowering local MSMEs and creators, opening digital economic opportunities through a sustainable e-commerce ecosystem.
The event will officially launch at 7:30pm on January 23rd, with Sarawak’s Deputy Premier and Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah officiating on behalf of the Premier.
