‘Peace Committee’ Invites Multiple Countries to Join; Trump: May Replace the United Nations

US President Trump stated on the 20th that the United Nations should continue to exist, but the so-called “Peace Committee” he just announced may replace it.

At a press conference held at the White House, when asked whether the “Peace Committee” would replace the United Nations, he replied, “It might.”

At the same time, he emphasized that he was very optimistic about the United Nations’ “potential” and that it should continue to exist.

The US government recently announced the establishment of the so-called “Peace Committee” and invited multiple countries to join.

At the time, Trump pointed out that the “Peace Committee” would first address the Gaza issue, and then extend to handle “other conflicts.” Multiple media outlets revealed that the US side offered a permanent membership fee of 1 billion US dollars.

Some public opinion believes the US intends to shape the so-called “Peace Committee” into an institution parallel to the United Nations, which would undermine the UN’s authority and working mechanisms.

Not Attending G7 Emergency Summit in Paris

In addition, Trump stated that he will not attend the emergency G7 leaders’ summit that French President Macron plans to hold in Paris soon.

He said that multiple meetings regarding Greenland had already been scheduled in Davos and things “will go very smoothly,” but the G7 emergency summit was not among them.

When asked by the media if US determination to control Greenland would lead to the disintegration of NATO, Trump replied that the United States and NATO would find a solution that both sides would be “very satisfied” with.

He pointed out that NATO’s role is “sometimes overstated,” and that NATO’s strength depends on the United States—without America, NATO would not be very strong.

Earlier, Trump retweeted a message from Macron to him on social media. In the message, Macron said he did not understand Trump’s actions regarding Greenland and suggested arranging a G7 meeting in Paris on the afternoon of the 22nd, inviting Ukraine, Denmark, Syria, and Russia to participate.
