South Korean actor Cho Jin-woong, known for portraying righteous roles in works like ‘Signal’ and ‘Believer’, was today (5th) exposed by Dispatch for concealing his past, including changing his name, hiding his education, and being involved in car theft and sexual violence during high school, which led to his placement in a juvenile detention center. This revelation has sparked controversy due to the stark contrast with his public image. His agency, Saram Entertainment, stated: ‘We are currently verifying the authenticity of the reported content. Once the facts are clarified, we will issue an official statement.’
According to reports, Cho Jin-woong’s real name is ‘Cho Won-jun’, and his current stage name ‘Cho Jin-woong’ was taken from his father’s name. He celebrates his birthday on the third day of the third lunar month every year, but his actual birthdate is April 6, 1976 (the seventh day of the third lunar month).
In addition, records of Cho Jin-woong’s high school education and location are virtually nonexistent, with no clear evidence in Seoul, Bundang, or Busan. He deliberately blurred information about his birthplace and concealed having spent his high school years in Seoul, instead emphasizing that he is a ‘native of Busan,’ which has raised questions about his true background.
Several informants claim that Cho Jin-woong’s teenage years involved ‘more than just typical rebellion,’ and that he was involved in serious crimes. The revelations indicate he was part of a group of school bullies, participated with accomplices in stealing cars, driving without a license, and was even involved in acts of sexual violence.
