Directed by Juno Mak, the long-awaited crime epic "Sons of the Neon Night" ("Feng Lin Huo Shan") has swept this year's Hong Kong Film Awards with 12 nominations. Director Juno Mak revealed that in order to invite Takeshi Kaneshiro—who had been out of the public eye for some time—to act in the film, he personally flew to Tokyo for a meeting.
"Sons of the Neon Night" brings together an ultra-starry cast: Takeshi Kaneshiro, Sean Lau, Louis Koo, Tony Leung Ka Fai—four major Best Actors—along with Gao Yuanyuan, Alex To, and others. The film depicts a cold and turbulently dangerous world of drugs.
Director Juno Mak recalled the "secret face-to-face" in Tokyo took place in an extremely secluded restaurant. At the time, Takeshi Kaneshiro specifically noted, "There will not be anyone else appearing that day." In the vast space, only the two of them sat across from each other, which left Juno Mak stunned, exclaiming, "The moment I entered, it already felt like a movie!" This nearly obsessive sincerity ultimately moved the male star to agree to take the role.
