(Bandar Seri Begawan, 20th) Around 50 legal practitioners from the Brunei Law Society gathered at the Ministry of Development hall to attend a briefing session on the Land Law (Amendment) Order 2025.
The aim of the briefing was to clarify the scope of application and impact of the newly amended order to legal professionals, in order to ensure that legal practitioners can accurately understand and apply the relevant regulations in land matters.
The session was chaired by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Legal and Corporate Affairs) of the Ministry of Development, Ardillah; Acting Director of the Department of Land Use, Housing and Environment, Nuru Janah; and Senior Lands Officer of the Land Department, Amal Hayati.
After the briefing, attendees engaged in interactive discussions and raised various questions related to land governance, with the aim of further improving the land management framework.
The Land Law (Amendment) Order 2025 is expected to take effect on August 1, 2025, marking a major revision to Brunei’s land legislation in nearly a decade. The amendment aims to simplify and improve the land ownership process for citizens and certain resident groups, including stateless permanent residents, ensuring broader access to property rights. The revision is one of the reform measures announced by His Majesty the Sultan in his speech on his 79th birthday.
Members of the Brunei Law Society and officers from the Land Department were also present at the briefing session.
