(Myanmar, 11th) — Myanmar state media reported on the 10th that the government has recently been systematically clearing and demolishing illegal buildings in Shwe Kokko Valley and the KK Park, structures used for online fraud and gambling activities. All 635 illegal buildings in KK Park have now been completely demolished.
According to Myanmar News Agency and other state-run media such as 'Myanmar Global New Light', authorities on the 9th demolished the last two illegal buildings in Zone 2 of KK Park.
Myanmar state media pointed out that all illegal buildings in KK Park used for online fraud and gambling have therefore been completely demolished. This includes 148 buildings in Zone 1, 62 buildings in Zone 2, and 425 buildings in Zone 3, for a total of 635 illegal buildings. Demolition was carried out using controlled blasting and heavy machinery.
According to reports, in order to ensure that the structures demolished by machinery were completely destroyed, the Myanmar government reinforced the demolition process with burning barrels starting from December 14th of last year. Officials stated they would continue using similar methods to thoroughly destroy remaining illegal buildings.
The Myanmar government emphasized that eradicating online fraud and gambling activities is a national responsibility and reiterated the commitment not to allow such criminal behavior to take root within Myanmar. Authorities stated they will continue to coordinate and cooperate with domestic security agencies and neighboring governments to eliminate online fraud and gambling activities.
