(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th) In conjunction with World Stroke Day, the Stroke and Rehabilitation Center under Jerudong Park Medical Center recently held stroke awareness seminars at Kuala Belait Municipal Council and Tutong Community Hall, continuing efforts to strengthen community health education nationwide.
The seminars attracted village heads, village committee chairs, heads of various departments, representatives from public and non-governmental organizations, as well as participants from senior activity centers. The active participation of community leaders reflects joint efforts from all sectors to raise awareness on stroke prevention and early intervention.
The Kuala Belait session was delivered by Dr. Chan Guan Choon, while the Tutong session was led by Dr. Albert Lim. Both seminars were themed "Understanding Hypertensive Hemorrhagic Stroke: The Silent Killer," focusing on the risks of uncontrolled high blood pressure, the importance of using the BEFAST method to recognize stroke symptoms, available treatment options, and the necessary actions to take immediately in the event of suspected stroke.
Participants also received practical guidance, learning how to more effectively control blood pressure and reduce overall risks. Afterwards, under the arrangement of the rehabilitation department, participants took part in simulation activities to personally experience the physical and visual impairments stroke patients may face, deepening their understanding of the disease's impact.
The seminars saw enthusiastic responses, underscoring the importance of these topics in the community. One participant noted that such activities help increase understanding of stroke patients' experiences and serve as a timely reminder for the public to pay attention to their own health and take preventive measures early.
The organizers indicated they will continue to promote the concept of preventive healthcare through regional activities, popularize relevant knowledge in the community, and enhance public awareness and vigilance in responding to strokes.
