Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during talks with Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs II Erywan that China is willing to jointly uphold multilateralism with Brunei, and to resist unilateral bullying and Cold War mentality.
According to the official website of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi held talks with Erywan in Beijing on the 11th.
Wang Yi stated that next year will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China is willing to take the important consensus reached by the two heads of state as the fundamental guide, maintain high-level exchanges, enhance strategic communication, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthen multilateral collaboration with Brunei.
Wang Yi said that next year also marks the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership. China has always regarded ASEAN as its closest cooperation partner and is willing to continue mutual support and mutual trust with ASEAN, align development strategies, create cooperation highlights, adhere to open regionalism, uphold true multilateralism, resist any unilateral bullying and Cold War mentality, and jointly serve as an important force for regional prosperity and stability.
Wang Yi also expounded on China’s principled position on the Taiwan issue and the grave harm of erroneous Taiwan-related remarks made by the current Japanese leader, appreciated Brunei's long-term adherence to the One-China Principle, and hopes and believes that Brunei fully understands China’s position and will continue to firmly support the just cause of the Chinese people in safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and work together to uphold the post-war international order and the conscience and justice of humanity.
According to the Chinese press release, Erywan said that Brunei is willing to take the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year as an opportunity to strengthen high-level exchanges with China, deepen political mutual trust, promote people-to-people exchanges, and expand cooperation in fields such as manufacturing and agriculture and fishery, to advance Brunei-China relations to greater development. Amid growing uncertainty in the international situation, countries in the region should strengthen cooperation and jointly resist unilateralism and neo-colonialism.
The two sides agreed to work together to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea and to accelerate consultations on the "Code of Conduct in the South China Sea." Both sides also agreed that the international community should genuinely achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire on the Palestinian issue, practice the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine,” adhere to the general direction of the “two-state solution,” avoid double standards, and promote lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
