Fierce Competition in Malaysia's Chinese New Year Box Office: 'Ah Beng VS Madam Leong' Stays on Top, 'Bladesman' Rises Rapidly

The 2026 Malaysia Chinese New Year box office competition is fierce. As of the eighth day of the Lunar New Year (February 24), the current box office champion remains 'Ah Beng VS Madam Leong', directed by Jack Neo and co-starring Jack Lim and the 'Double Jack' duo, leading with RM8.13 million in box office sales. The Chinese wuxia film 'Bladesman: Rise of the Great Desert' follows closely with RM7.6 million, while the Hong Kong New Year film 'King of the Night' has accumulated RM5.6 million, climbing into the top three—making the competition extremely intense!

'Ah Beng VS Madam Leong' has shown a strong box office performance since its release on the first day of the Lunar New Year. As of the official announcement from the production team on the seventh day (Feb 23), it has confirmed a box office achievement of RM8.13 million, still firmly holding the title of local Chinese New Year film champion and slowly approaching last year's 'Half Catty, Eight Taels', which set a record of RM9.85 million in total box office.

Bladesman: Rise of the Great Desert has surpassed RM7.6 million and currently ranks second.
Starring Wu Jing, Nicholas Tse, Jet Li, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Chen Lijun, and Yu Shi, 'Bladesman' is close behind, having accumulated over RM7.6 million and standing in second place. 'King of the Night', starring Dayo Wong, Sammi Cheng, Malaysian actress Kyo Chen, and Louise Wong, has reached RM5.6 million and sits third, forming the top tier.

In the middle of the rankings, 'Panda Project: Tribal Adventure' has currently accumulated RM5 million, placing fourth, surpassing the local web team Dissy Productions' 'Parasite Down', which has reported RM4.5 million. 'Mom, Getting Married Again!' currently stands at RM3 million, while 'Kung Fu', 'Silent Awakening', and 'Double Happiness' have not yet released their box office figures as of Feb 24.

As results of the first wave of films gradually become clear, a new round of Chinese New Year releases are also joining the fray. Starting this week, the Chinese sci-fi film 'Galactic Dream', starring Dylan Wang and Victoria Song, the animation 'Boonie Bears: Bears to the Rescue', Hong Kong film 'Gold Treasure', Singaporean films 'My Life, My Tiles!' and 'Honey, I Love You', as well as local work 'So Many Happy Events' will join the competition. With these new arrivals, further shifts in the box office rankings are expected. #
